Japanese Ramen Shop
Kan So is a ramen shop founded by Hiro Tanaka, originally from Osaka, who is now opening its second location in Copenhagen. After inheriting his father’s 40-year-old ramen shop, Hiro chose not to reinvent the business, but to preserve the traditions and values that had made it a beloved part of the community. His goal was to carry forward the same authenticity, quality, and sense of familiarity that customers had cherished for decades.
Inspired by a place where the same neighbors still gather every Tuesday for the same bowl of ramen, prepared the same way, Kan So celebrates consistency and craftsmanship. Rather than following trends or making unnecessary changes, the brand focuses on honoring its heritage and maintaining the experience that has brought people together for generations.

Because of the design constraints - no chopstick illustrations, no red and black, no decorative kanji, no stereotypical Japanese visuals, and no Scandinavian minimalism, the aim was to create something more original and expressive. A bohemian-inspired style was chosen to bring warmth and personality, instead of a strict or predictable look. The interiors combine natural textures with subtle elements like paper lanterns, giving a soft hint of Japanese culture without relying on obvious symbols.
The logo uses a mix of an elegant font, a clean sans-serif, and a handwritten style to create a balance between refinement and craft. No kanji was used, keeping the design simple and accessible. The color palette avoids traditional choices and instead uses calm, earthy tones like terracotta, soft green, cream, and deep charcoal - helping the brand feel modern, warm, and comfortable in both cities.
